Some questions people often have before arranging counselling.
Do I need a referral for counselling?
No. You can book counselling directly without a GP referral or Mental Health Treatment Plan.
Where is face-to-face counselling available?
Face-to-face counselling is available at 129A Lake Street, Cairns City, on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, subject to appointment availability.
Do you offer phone, video or text counselling?
Yes. Phone, video and scheduled text-based counselling are available Australia-wide at the appointment times shown in the booking calendar. I'll confirm how you'd prefer to attend after you book.
What can counselling help with?
People come to counselling for different reasons, including anxiety, stress, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, substance use and adjusting to injury, illness or changes in life.
What happens during the first session?
We'll talk about what brought you to counselling, how things have been affecting you and what you'd like to work towards. You don't need to prepare anything special.
Do you offer a free meet and greet?
Yes. You can arrange a free 15-minute introductory phone or video conversation to ask questions and see whether counselling feels like the right fit. It isn't a counselling session.
How long are counselling sessions?
Individual counselling sessions are 50 minutes.
How much does counselling cost?
Individual counselling costs $110 for a 50-minute session. Additional fees, where applicable, are discussed before the service. Requested reports and other documentation are charged at $110 per hour. You can read the full counselling fee information .
What if I'm having difficulty affording counselling?
Please get in touch. I'm happy to discuss your circumstances and see whether an alternative fee arrangement might be possible.
Can NDIS funding be used for counselling?
Counselling may be available to eligible self-managed and plan-managed participants when it relates to their disability-related needs and goals. Funding needs to be checked before booking. Agency-managed funding is not accepted.
Do you accept Medicare or private health insurance?
No. These counselling services do not attract Medicare rebates, including through Mental Health Treatment Plans, or private health insurance rebates.
Is counselling confidential?
Counselling is confidential, subject to legal, professional and safety-related limitations. These will be explained before counselling begins.
Do I need to know exactly what to say?
No. You can start by sharing whatever feels most important to you. We can work through the details together.
Do you offer after-hours appointments?
Some after-hours appointments may be available. You can view current appointment times through the online booking calendar.
Are there cancellation fees?
Please provide at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellation or missed appointment fees may apply under the agreed booking terms.
